Everything You Should Know About Windows 11 Chat App

Chatting with friends and scheduling online meetings with co-workers have become a lot easier with the Windows Chat App. The app is accessible in Windows 11.

The announcement of the Chat App was made during the Windows 11 release. The Chat App is the new communication tool by Microsoft Teams. It is a built-in app that is located between widgets and the Microsoft Edge icon in the taskbar.

Set up

A shortcut key is also available to start the program. Press ‘Windows key + C’ to launch the app.

To set up the app, click on the app icon. Then click on the ‘Continue’ button. After pressing the Continue button, it takes a while to go to the next page. To start the chat configuration press the Get Started button. It represents the Welcome banner.

Log In

The users can log in with an existing account or can create a new one. Phone number is compulsory to log in to the application. The app allows you to either log in with your email or phone number. To complete the process, it asks for two-factor authentication.

Contact syncing

Upon signing in, you can sync your contacts, from outlook, skype, or teams to your Chat account. To connect with IT communities, you can invite them via email, or phone.

The chatting experience of Chat App is quite similar to that of skype.

Chat offers a chatting platform for direct text messages, sharing pictures, gifs, and stickers. And a Meet section for organizing video calls, with family, friends, or co-workers. To invite new people, users can share a link or email.

Direct messaging

To start a conversation on Chat, enter the contact name in the ‘To’ field and hit enter. Type your message in the text box. You can insert pictures, stickers, and gifs as well. Moreover, you can press the Format button. It will open up several options as text style, font, bold and insert option, etc. You can also make groups in the Chat app of as many people as you want. Teams also provide you with the opportunity to start a poll.

Video Calls

To start a video call, select the meet button. You can either call an individual or a group. Users are provided with the ability to choose different backgrounds or blur them entirely.

To invite people outside your call list for a meeting or call you can simply invite them via link or email.

Removing Chat on Windows 11

Chat App can be removed from the taskbar and un-installed from Windows 11. In case you don’t intend on using the app, you can simply remove the Chat App following the steps stated below.

Removing from Taskbar

Open the settings, and press the Personalization button. On the right side, you’ll find the Taskbar page. There will be a switch for Chat under the Taskbar items. Hit that switch to turn it off. This will hide the icon from the Taskbar.

Uninstalling the App

To uninstall the App, go to the setting and select Apps. You will notice an Apps and Features page on the right side. Select that page. Next, you need to press the button ‘Microsoft Teams App’. Hit the three-dot button in front of the App and press the Uninstall button. Press that button twice.

These settings will enable you to uninstall the App.

The productivity of the Chat App can be enhanced using Windows 11 Snap Layouts. For instance, while working on an office project, you might need to discuss the details with a co-worker or client. With the comfort of working from home, you can arrange that meeting with your Chat App. However, using Snap Layouts you can enhance its productivity by arranging the app in one of the Snap Layouts and organizing PowerPoint slides, files, or other meeting-related documents in the other Layouts.

This app is a handy inclusion in Windows 11 as it allows users to access the contacts from Outlook, and Skype on the same platform. Moreover, while working on your system you can have a chat session with your family, friends, co-workers, and clients from the same app.
