The bored ape club was founded by Gargamel and Gordon Goner as co-founders. When they both decided to give a structure to their bored apes’ idea, the avatar clubs were already trending. They benefitted from that concept as well.
Concept
After studying the current market trends at the time, they decided to launch a collection that would continue to grow. They wanted to make something with a bigger picture in mind. To do so, they desired to create something that reflected their individual tastes and inclinations.
The yacht club was conceived as a sarcastic term that would imitate other locations. They were both influenced by hip-hop and wanted to lend a similar flavor to their collection. The concepts resembled a video game more than a collection of NFTs.
Creation
To bring their ideas into reality they hired professional illustrators to design the NFTs. The cartoon ape features were then fed into an algorithmic software that generated millions of images with unique combinations of bodies, heads, hats, and garments, similar to digital dress-up dolls, as with numerous avatar clubs. Certain characteristics, like rainbow fur, laser eyes, and togas, are uncommon, making apes with those features more attractive and expensive.
After completion of the creation process, the launched collection was sold out the very next day.
The Beginning of the Madness
The internet was quickly taken over by the club. Many well-known celebrities and NFT collectors changed their avatars or displayed photographs of apes.
The following day, the whole collection of the Bored Ape Yacht Club was fully sold out. It was sold for $2 million. Since then, their artwork has sold for a total of $100 million. It’s worth noting that the cheapest apes were sold for 14 thousand dollars.
There were some characteristics attributed to the apes that became the reason for their sudden boom!
Freedom To Use Apes as One Pleases
The additional factor that increased the hype of this club was the freedom of the users to create something out of their owned bored apes. It was also one of the first clubs to let individual customers sell the commercial rights to the apes they possess. Resultantly the club garnered more views and became more famous.
The founders regard their NFT’s openness as a strength. They are of the view that “Anything people make with their apes just serves to strengthen the brand”.
Inclusion of Fans
The club became more and more famous because of the inclusion of buyers in the NFT community.
The bored ape yacht club has a community around it, that participates in events, chats, activities, and parties. While getting a chance to meet the many celebrities who are also the owners of the bored ape NFTs.
Their discord channel consists of both fans and NFT owners as members. Their count exceeds 13 thousand. This channel is their platform to engage in discussions. It was the main aim of the co-founders of the yacht club to create a digital community around their NFTs. According to them, the internet lacked a sense of community. Which they have derived out of the fans and owners of their collection.
NFT Bored Ape Yacht Club Price for Entry
The club is inclusive and the price for entry in the club is 52 ether which can otherwise be written as $210,000. The celebrity owners of some of these NFTs include Jimmy Fallon, Eminem, Post Malone, and Stephen Curry.
Apart from the normal ‘bored ape collection, there is also an NFT bored ape mutant club.
NFT Bored Ape Mutant
NFT bored ape mutant club consists of 20,000 mutant apes. These mutant apes are generated by exposing an existing bored ape to a vial of mutant serum or minting a mutant ape in public sale.
Most Expensive NFT Bored Ape
The most expensive NFT bored ape had been sold for 769 ETH which is equal to $2.3 million USD. That NFT character Bored Ape #2087 has been acquired by an anonymous buyer.
It clearly reflects the value a single NFT entails.
Ape Fest
An NFT conference was held in NYC that saw the boom of bored apes. Many dressed as bored apes and joined the event. The yacht club even kicked off the party for the Ape Fest. It showed how much community was attached and how valuable the collection has become.
